ERIE BASIN ANTIQUES
Sept. 18 - 20
Late 19th Century Pink Paste Comet Brooch, 10K Gold (in the online shop)
19th Century Scarab Beetle Cross, Gold Filled, $350
I’m not sure if the maker of this intended the irony, but I love it. It’s a cross pendant made up of scarab beetles— one of the most important ancient Egyptian religious symbols.
1930s Art Deco 0.38ct European Cut Diamond Ring, Two-Toned 14K White and Yellow Gold, Single Cut Diamond Sides, $1395
1870s Carved Coral Cameo Earrings, 14K Gold, Original Box, $2395
I’ve long wanted to buy a pair of nice carved coral cameo earrings for the shop, but they rarely turn up and when they do, they’re usually out-of-this-world expensive or broken. These beauties are in perfect condition, in their original box from Braverman & Levy in San Francisco, which operated from 1852-1881.
Some of the most interesting butterfly wing pendants I’ve ever found. Most of these were not much on design. It was enough just to put a little slice of iridescent wing under glass. But some of these are really transcendent. Look at the far left one, how they used a background wing with contrasting white spots to give the effect of clouds. And the one second to right looks like the moth is flying through Aurora Borealis.
From Left to Right:
c1930 Butterfly Wing Clouds Pendant, 14K (sold)
c1930 Butterfly Wing Pendant, 14K, $250
c1930 Butterfly Wing Aurora Borealis Pendant, $265
c1930 Butterfly Wing Pendant, Silver, $165
1920-30s Large French Butterfly Wing Brooch, Silver, $265
1920-30s Art Deco Fancy-Colored Diamond Engagement Ring (in the online shop)
1930s French Indochina Art Deco Bracelet, Sterling Silver, $525
I love when design worlds collide. Though this bracelet is of traditional Vietnamese construction and embellishment the bold, geometric design is typical of French Art Deco.
